Who do you think has affected your own personality development based on external groups and or people?
Action
- Meet for 1 minute with your home group (colours), then establish if you have anyone missing. Let me know so we can sub someone in for you when you get back to your colour group.
- Move to your expert group - you each have one. Work through the questions on the worksheet, using the textbook. Share information with each other, so you all have the same info. This is important to your home group. If unsure, check with me so that we are bringing good info home.

Wed & Thurs May 31st & June 1st 2017
Social Psychology & Experimentation
Learning Goal - Begin with the End in Mind
I will examine three classic psychology experiments and increase my understanding of ethics in research, and the findings of Milgram, Asch and Zimbardo, particularly as they pertain to how groups or others affect individual behaviours - this is social psychology.
Minds On
Wed) Introduce the social psychology experiments and ask students about conformity.
Thurs) Go over the experiment plan.
Action
Wed) Ethics of these experiments? Any issues? Is anyone hurt, is it cheating and so on.
Thurs) Review Five Factors Affecting Conformity - which is the most relevant to our results?

Tuesday May 27th 2014 Loose Ends -Heroes Part II; Should we or Shouldn't we? The Ethics of Changing Behaviours
Learning Goal - Begin with the End in Mind
3. a) A brief discussion around the types of therapy that people may be exposed to in order to shift or modify behaviour and what we mean by ethical.
3. b) Read the case study together as a class re: gay camps.
Action
What do you think? Is it ever justifiable to manipulate another person's behaviour? When is it okay? When is it not okay? Who should be able to do this? Who should not?
The class consensus seemed to be that in order for any treatments to be ethical people need to consent to them, rather than having others put it upon them. In the case of child safety, however the view was that if you hurt children then you lose your rights to choose. This was less clear in the case involving the young child who was violent.
Learning Goal - Begin with the End in Mind
- I will know more about another group of psychologists and their research - specifically Asch, Milgram, Zimbardo, Harlow, & McGraw (Dr. Phil).
- I will know more about AntiSocial Disorder and Narcisism (Personality Disorders) - specifically the symptoms, stats, causes, and possible treatments.
- I will begin to examine the ethics of changing human behaviours, just because we can doesn't necessarily mean we should.
3. a) A brief discussion around the types of therapy that people may be exposed to in order to shift or modify behaviour and what we mean by ethical.
3. b) Read the case study together as a class re: gay camps.
Action
- In small groups students will discuss the scenarios on the cards that they randomly choose. Is this a situation that merits therapeutic changes in behaviour? Why or why not?
- Take these up as a class.
