Research and Inquiry Skills Unit
Throughout this unit and the course, we will be...
Exploring: We will be exploring topics related to anthropology, psychology and sociology and formulating relevant research questions connected to each.
Investigating: We will be creating a research plan for field research, looking for resources and research for topics of study connected to anthropology, psychology and sociology - using social science research and inquiry methods.
Processing Information: We will be analyzing gathered data in the field (primary), and assessing and processing information from our research (secondary).
Communicating: We will communicated the results of our research and inquiry using appropriate methods like a formal research report, a research essay and presentations.

We are playing a people Bingo game . The first three students with a true Bingo will win a Tim's Card! Find students in the class who fit the description in each square until you have a complete row or column or diagonal. The one sticking point is that you have to talk to each student whose name is on your page and they need to be telling the truth. We will be testing the people on your list. Hang on to your bingo sheets. |

Day One
- Let's look at the handouts that explain what exactly is due on Thurdsay February 23rd 2017 and the personal responsibility sheet; then we will watch a short clip on in text citations @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLILIYxeGIs&safe=active
- Here are the note making templates / work sheets for the secondary research. Short lesson on APA in text citations using your own words and for direct quotes. You will need to know how to do this for the literature review.
- Look at the four learning objectives from this unit - which have we been working on this week so far? Which have we not? Let's meet briefly to see if anyone has questions about the process.
Day One
- Let's go to the library and in your teams decide who is doing each of the 5 tasks due next Thursday; everyone needs to complete task #6.
- By the end of the period we should have a rough research plan in place.
- Continue to work on the research - someone should be developing the tool, someone should be conducting secondary research, someone should be writing out task 1 & 2.
- By the end of the period hopefully a tool has been completed, task 1 and 2 are done and your group is working on conducting secondary research (the literature review).
- Some teams will begin gathering data (Stage III and IV). Make sure that everyone is actively involved in gathering data first hand, and in finding secondary research.
Day One
- Tell Ms. Carruth how your team is dividing the responsibilities.
- Where are you at? Do you need anything for tomorrow to continue?
- Where are you at? Go over "Our Synergy Success Criteria Checklist" - what needs to happen for Stages I, II & III to be handed in prior to or at the beginning of the period tomorrow?
